28-year-old Efren Penaflorida leads the 10,000-strong Dynamic Teen Company, a team of volunteers that has spent the last 12 years teaching basic reading and writing to 1500 children in slum areas, by way of a “kariton klasrum”, a small fleet of pushcarts bearing books, pencils and other materials.

These traveling classrooms espouse not only literacy, but also basic hygiene and values formation to uplift the lives of street children and out-of-school youth.

Ever since I found out Livejournal hooked up with Google Ads, well I signed up and have been checking to see how much money I can make. Like ten times a day.
Two days later I made $7.

Me: "Oh my God. I made $7 on Google ads."
Grace: "Wow! Can you treat me? To Pepper Lunch??"
Me: "No. It's not enough."
*Refresh*
Me: "Oh my God. $8 na!"
Grace: "Oh my God!"
LOL

Check out my Google ad on the right of this post.

"The scene is a forest, in the dark of the night. Yellow shirts and soft yellow light, Regine Velasquez by a fire in the woods, singing of togetherness and unity and a farewell to fear. There is the small child, offering a bamboo torch to the senator. There is talk show host Boy Abunda, standing on a boat manned by a young boy. There is Kris Aquino, Noynoy’s sister, who is rumored to have been wining and dining A-list celebrities to support her brother. It is national unity via television ratings: the top stars of the warring networks linked by yellow. ABS-CBN’s darlings of prime time television are lit beautifully in the flickering firelight, holding their bamboo torches, hair bouncing as they walk, smiling soulfully into the distance. The camera lets GMA7’s number one love team Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera look lovingly at each other as they walk on, a smiling Sharon Cuneta raises a lantern, Ogie Alcasid marches with torch. There is the odd farmer and soldier, but it’s clear who the stars are. And so the full shot, a great phalanx of torch-bearing, yellow-clad men and women marching to battle, the celebrities at the front lines. Through it all, Noynoy smiles at children, at people, at the camera, smiles blankly, and you can almost hear him count in his head the seconds before he has to turn to the lens. In the end, he leaps awkwardly up to a mound of soil, surrounded by his beautiful constituency, and a sun explodes behind him in shattering brilliance.

"In a nation where government responsibility has shifted to the media, and calls for aid are directed to newsroom desks instead of the hotlines of the National Disaster Coordinating Council, this sort of move isn’t particularly surprising. A united GMA7 and ABS-CBN may seem like the best of metaphors for a united nation, but it says very much about the sort of man Noynoy Aquino is. Flanked by stars, surrounded by celebrities, content to ride on the waving banner stamped with his parents’ faces. There is no message, other than that personality is king. There are no voices, not even his. His defenders say it’s not the time for campaign—and yet that video rolls on and on in prime time television. You are not alone, they say, but who stands with you? Anne Curtis? Ate Shawie? Marielle Rodriguez? Just recently, Noynoy promised to give up his share of Hacienda Luisita, and yet denies knowing of eviction notices to farmers even while the case sits in the Supreme Court. Laza continues to march in rallies, five years after a bullet ripped a good man away. Nothing has changed, the same songs, the same names, the same injustices."

Last Friday I finally did what I've been contemplating since my college years—I had some procedure done to my arms. It's only Mesotherapy but it got me down for a day.
The procedure itself wasn't painful, in fact I almost fell asleep while being pricked by a needle 30 times.
But an hour later I started to feel very tired. I asked my girl friend Lia to carry my bags.
When I got home I couldn't carry the baby who missed me.

'60s summer with my brother (L) and cousin
Last time I wore a bikini. The '60s with my brother (L) and my cousin (R).

I had no appetite for the rest of the day.
Saturday I woke up sick and deposited quite an amount in the toilet (now I hope you have had your meal, I do apologize). I did that for a few times and felt really weak. I lost one pound and stayed in bed the whole day, too weak to take or make any phone calls.
My sister, nephew and niece visited me to plan my sister's 18th birthday party. I did this all in bed, giving them instructions on who to call.

Polaroid, 1999
1999, before I got married

At 4 PM I started to feel sorry for myself and thought, maybe this is what chemo feels like and thought about my cousin and Gerdie. I felt like a truck ran over me. I started to cry and pray. I also thought, can people die from Meso?
And then I finally asked the kids to find my Alaxan. My masseuse came and in one hour I was feeling so much better. Alaxan is the bomb!
Jeroen came home and the kids wanted Pepper Lunch, so I said let's go!

What a cutie
Goulven and I, Acquario opening c. 2002 after Ben was born

I got knocked out in the car. I fell into a deep sleep. I was a zombie at Pepper Lunch, but I ate my teriyaki salmon, felt energized enough to buy materials at National Bookstore to create invitations for my sister.
Sunday was OK, but was too tired to blog.
And then I was up last night worrying about all the stuff I have to do today.
And nine more sessions of meso? I don't know if I can handle it. Seriously I have to hit those dumbells.

“The Constitution is very clear that the state should protect life from conception up to its natural end,” Father Castro said.“Regardless of their religion, Filipinos are God-fearing and family-loving. This bill will change that culture.”

There really should be a separation of church and state in the Philippines. For one thing, the Catholic Church is run by men who know nothing about getting pregnant, raising children and having a family. Much like prostitution, regardles if abortion is illegal, it's not going to stop women from resorting to it.

hay nako.

The latest issue of Time magazine features an article about Pacquiao--his rise to stardom and his plan of running for office. I do not doubt his intentions to serve the masses but I don't deem it necesary for him to become a politician in order to achieve that goal. Remember what Celine told Jessie when they were conversing in a cafe in Before Sunset, "I see it in the people that do the real work, and what's sad in a way is that the people that are the most giving, hardworking, and capable of making this world better, usually don't have the ego and ambition to be a leader."
